Biography

Dr. David Raab is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and one of the founding physicians of Illinois Bone and Joint Institute. His practice is based on a comprehensive team approach to patient education and care. Dr. Raab utilizes advanced, state-of-the-art techniques in combination with ethical decision making to ensure exceptional orthopedic care for his patients. His strong commitment to patient safety and his warm and friendly interaction with his patients make them feel like family.

Dr. Raab specializes in sports medicine in both adult and pediatric patients and provides treatment for injuries involving the rotator cuff, labrum, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus, and knee ligament reconstruction. He also performs total knee replacements and total hip replacements. He performs arthroscopic (minimally invasive) procedures, which reduce patient discomfort, side effects, and recovery times.

The son of a physician, Dr. Raab was inspired by his father’s dedication to helping people and decided to become a doctor at a young age. He educates patients and relies on the latest medical evidence to make sound, ethical treatment recommendations and regards surgery as a last option after non-surgical treatments have been tried.

Dr. Raab is an avid athlete and plays competitive tennis and paddle tennis on a regular basis. His love of sports and maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle is something he shares with his family, including his four children. His longstanding participation in these activities gives Dr. Raab an added understanding and appreciation of the importance of healthy bones and joints and helps fuel his determination to improve his patients’ conditions.

There’s nothing more gratifying for me than helping my patients get back to the sports and activities they love."

"In 2017, Dr. Raab replaced my left knee using the Visionaire knee replacement system. Surgery started at 9am, in Morton Grove, and I was home watching TV at 2pm. This knee replacement was the result of a 1979 sports injury. Last year I played left field for a 60-65 year old 12″ softball team and we won the AAA National Championship. I could not have hoped for a better outcome, as I worked my way through rehabilitation. Originally, I searched the top 25 orthopedic surgeons in the US; Dr. Raab was one of two in the Chicago area. I really enjoy meeting with him on an annual basis, as he reviews how I’m doing. He deserves one of our championship jerseys, as he enabled me to play at 100 percent. Thanks Dr. Raab!” – Dennis S.

"Dr. Raab and his PA were very thorough when explaining diagnosis. They were professional, courteous, kind and empathetic. Would definitely recommend them."

"Dr Raab and his staff is very informative and if you have questions or need them to respond to you it is within the same day you leave a message!"
