Biography

Dr. Sampat, a board-certified spinal surgeon, brings expertise in both orthopedic and neurosurgery. He manages a wide array of back and neck conditions, opting for conservative treatments or surgery based on patient needs. Dr. Sampat is proficient in minimally invasive procedures and cutting-edge techniques, including robotic-assisted spine surgery. A milestone in his career was in 2018 when he performed the first robotic spine surgery at Silver Cross Hospital using the Globus Excelsius GPS system, which enhances the accuracy of spinal fusions and expedites recovery.

Dr. Sampat’s educational path started at Northwestern University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering. He then obtained his M.D. from Finch University/The Chicago Medical School in 2003. His residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago culminated in his role as chief resident. Further honing his skills, he completed a fellowship in neurosurgical and orthopedic spinal surgery at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston.

His contributions to spinal surgery research are extensive, with numerous lectures at professional conferences and several co-authored textbook chapters. Additionally, Dr. Sampat has a rich teaching background, having instructed medical students at both Harvard Medical School and the UIC College of Medicine.

I aim to provide comprehensive, compassionate, and expert care for patients with problems involving the spine. I will try to maximize conservative non-surgical treatment before recommending surgery. When surgery is needed, I use minimally invasive techniques to help patients recover faster and get back to enjoying their lives.
